We are in process of building an amazing website, but are not quite there yet! Please be patient with us. See our story below and how our charity works.
Feel free to contact us - we are in business and taking donations.
Welcome to the Cardboard That Cares website.
We are a newly formed non-profit organization with the purpose of taking in donations of unwanted sports cards (and non-sports cards) and turning those into dollars that can be used for charitable purposes. The idea originated as a school project, but it's based on a few basic beliefs:
-
The card-collecting community is filled with wonderful, generous people.
-
There is a tremendous amount of cards and memorabilia out there which might be excess, unwanted or just doesn't fit into a collection any more.
-
We believe these have value that could be unlocked and those resources can be put to much better use, but people may just not have the time to do so themselves.
-
Card collecting is fun - for all ages - for whatever team you like or whatever interests you. And is there any better way to raise money for charity than through something that brings smiles to people's faces?
-
There are a lot of good things that can be done in the world. You just need to make it happen.
How It Works
Our mission is to receive donations of any type of sports cards, non-sports cards and/or memorabilia. We'll take in what we can get and we'll turn these donations into cash by finding them a good, new home. We're not expecting to receive any 1952 Topps Mickey Mantles as a donation (although we are fine if we do).

What are we looking for?
-
Are you a dealer with some excess inventory you don't want to deal with any more? We'll take them!
-
Are you someone who doesn't collect but has a handful of cards of well loved cards from childhood? We'll take them!
-
Have your kids have left home and don't want those boxes of Pokemon cards in the basement any more? We'll take them!
-
Are you a card breaker that doesn't know what to do with all the extra commons? We'll take them!
Any of these would be treasures to us - so send them our way! We would love to receive them.

We will buy, sell, or trade any donations received to get their maximum value. We will use all net proceeds to support a variety of good causes. You have the option to choose from one of our charitable themes and we will put any net proceeds from your donations towards that cause. Our four primary causes are are:
-
helping our military veterans;
-
providing quality healthcare to those that need it;
-
supporting local education; and
-
helping with food insecurity issues.
If you don't have a preference, no problem, we'll combine and make sure all donations are going to a good cause.

Logistics
-
Sending us cards is as simple as filling in our Donor Submission form and including with your cards, or email us the form. Please email us first so we know what is coming our way.
-
The form asks for estimated value of the donation - just use your best guess here. If you don't know, leave it blank and we can estimate. Acknowledgement letters will be sent for all donations so you can make sure your cards have arrived safely.
-
We are an IRS-certified Section 501(c)(3) not profit organization, so any donations are eligible to be tax-deductible.
-
We accept cash donations as well. Paypal option is available now, but we're working on other payment forms.
-
We're based on the East Coast, but we want to hear from people across the country. We offer a No/Low shipping cost option. For any cards you mail to us, you have the option to get your shipping costs refunded to you (up to actual shipping costs or up to 25% of estimated value of the donation). Or you have the option of just paying the shipping yourself and then all proceeds will go towards our causes.
-
Donors can choose from one of our four primary charitable causes (military veterans, hospital care, education or food security).
-
We will set up at a few card shows per year and accept drop offs of donations.
So let us help clear out those old boxes of cards sitting in your basement and turn that into positive experiences for those that are in need of help.
Until we get everything up and running, email is the best way to contact us. Please contact us at cardboardthatcares@gmail.com with any questions or if you have any donations ready for us.
